Dee Dee Meyers Interview

Dee Dee Meyers, the first female Press Secretary, talks with Time Magazine about her new book, her feminism, and how tough it was for her to be taken seriously in the White House.  (A lot of this stuff surprised me–particularly how she received drastically less money than her male counterparts.)

Some discussion questions:

1) What do you think about the title of her book (Why Women Should Rule the World)?  Is it a good attention-grabber, does it reflect what feminism is about, is it an exaggeration?

2) What do you think about the way Time portrays Meyers (the photos, the captions, the questions they choose to ask)?  Is Time accurately reflecting what Meyers is trying to say? (I myself am troubled by certain aspects of the article, for sure.)

3) Do you think that more women in government would reduce the likelihood of going to war?

I love Dee Dee Meyers myself, and I think she is a very smart and capable person.  However, I wonder if the title of her book might not simply be playing into the hands of the anti-feminists . . . at the same time, Meyers is not advocating that women take over government, but rather that more women get involved in politics and governance, which would bring about some positive change in our country.

Well, check out the interview and discuss.
