Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Dental Dams (aka, Thank You Anthony Rapp)!

This evening, I had the pleasure of hearing Anthony Rapp, star of the poignant and rousing Rent, speak about his experience with the show to kick off Aids Awareness Week.  He is well-spoken and smart, and was patient (more patient than I was) with some of the foolish questions people asked, such as, “Have you [...]

Isabel Allende, one awesome person :)

My new favorite website is TED.com.  It’s described as a place to see “inspired talks by the worlds greatest thinkers and doers.”  Basically, it’s youtube for intellectuals, and I love it.  The talks featured are all around 15-20 minutes–longer than your typical youtube vid, but definitely more worth your time.  I stumbled upon the site [...]

V to the 10th Recap, part 1: Superlove

We’re ba-ack!
Nine of us made the arduous trek from Milwaukee, WI down to New Orleans to attend V to the 10th, the 10th anniversary of V-Day.  It was an exciting event, filled with humor, tears, information, and activism–and it blew my mind.
Here are some of the highlights of the event:

A Special YouTube Special

This video, made by Wajeha Al-Huwaider, demonstrates to Saudi Arabia that women can in fact be competent drivers.  Currently, women are restricted from driving in cities and, even if they do have licenses, can only drive in rural districts.
The video is in Arabic (you should watch it anyway), but here is an excerpt from the [...]

Dear Patriarchy, I Want My Stuff Back

Check out how awesome our feminist neighbors to the north are.  Here is a video made by  Jenna Owsianik, a Canadian feminist and creator of the Miss G Project, currently working on getting courses in Gender Studies into the Ontario school curriculum.  Pretty sweet, eh?
This video almost makes me excited for Midterm Week!!!  (Not really–but [...]

Dee Dee Meyers Interview

Dee Dee Meyers, the first female Press Secretary, talks with Time Magazine about her new book, her feminism, and how tough it was for her to be taken seriously in the White House.  (A lot of this stuff surprised me–particularly how she received drastically less money than her male counterparts.)
Some discussion questions:
1) What do you [...]

Thanks, Chelsea!

I attended the Clinton Campaign event today in which Chelsea Clinton came to the 2040 Lofts to speak in a town hall model gathering on behalf of her mother.  It was in an intimate setting, just in the common room at 2040s and was well attended with people even standing up in the back.  Also, [...]

This Just In: Chelsea Clinton Visiting Campus Tomorrow!

Hello readers! Fabulous news–Chelsea Clinton is coming to Marquette’s campus tomorrow to host a town hall-type meeting. Although we at The Word Warrior are not endorsing any particular candidate, I am terribly excited that such a strong woman is coming to campus to lead a discussion about important topics. This will give [...]
