Vagina Monologues–Marquette Style

Congratulations to all the MU Vagina Warriors (including our own Dashaway!) on a brilliant performance of the Vagina Monologues! Despite all of MU’s wavering, unreasonable stipulations, and general fuddy-duddiness, these fabulous women were able to put on a great and moving show.
And thanks to Ruby G’s as well for offering their business as a [...]

V to the 10th: Another Perspective

Here is a great Salon article reviewing The Vagina Monologues from a slightly less enthusiastic point of view. Part of the reason those of us at Marquette are so TVM-happy is that, at our university, such dialogue is censored on campus. (*gasp! women have private parts!*) So, Eve Ensler’s loud and [...]

V to the 10th Recap, part 4: The Ninth Ward

The day after the performance, we were preparing to road-trip back to Wisconsin. However, we thought that it was important to witness some of the Katrina devastation so that our experience of New Orleans included more than just the glitzy, rebuilt, touristy areas. So, led by one of our members who had volunteered [...]

V to the 10th Recap, part 3: The Performance, part B

Once again, I have to apologize for the amount of TVM recapping that is going on, but there is just so much to say!
Anywho, back to some more of the performance highlights:

V to the 10th Recap, part 2: The Performance, part A

After a long day of Superlovin’ and French Quarter visitin’ (Bourbon Street = fabulous jazz, fabulous food, disturbingly unfabulous sexual exploitation and strip joints), the nine of us headed to the Arena (right next door to the Superdome), where the performance was going to take place. We got there pretty early to find our [...]

V to the 10th Recap, part 1: Superlove

We’re ba-ack!
Nine of us made the arduous trek from Milwaukee, WI down to New Orleans to attend V to the 10th, the 10th anniversary of V-Day.  It was an exciting event, filled with humor, tears, information, and activism–and it blew my mind.
Here are some of the highlights of the event:

Off to NOLA!

Well, we are heading to New Orleans in about 3.5 hours now, so I just wanted to wish you all a happy weekend!  When we return, there will be some major blog updating with all of our cool experiences!
I am so excited!
Happy 10th anniversary to The Vagina Monologues!

Countdown to New Orleans

In roughly 28.5 hours, yours truly, dashaway, and six other lovely souls will be trekking down to good old New Orleans, Louisiana to attend V to the Tenth!
That’s right folks–this is the 10th anniversary of The Vagina Monologues, and this year’s national commemoration of the event will involve taking back the Superdome, where a lot [...]

Road to the Monologues Part 1: 2006

In anticipation of V-day, we here at The Word Warrior will be running a series of guest posts on the history of the “Vagina Monologues” at Marquette, told by senior and empowerment chair, Caitlin Madden. Here is part one:
The very beginning of the ongoing struggle to bring “Vagina Monologues” to Marquette’s campus isn’t really my story [...]
