Two TN GOP Congressional candidates “took care of” gay unit members

Ron Kirkland and Randy Smith are two candidates in a TN GOP primary. At a debate, they discussed their opposition to repeal of DADT:

Kirkland, a Vietnam veteran, said of his time in the military: “I can tell you if there were any homosexuals in that group, they were taken care of in ways I can’t describe to you.”

Smith, who served in the first Iraqi war, added: “I definitely wouldn’t want to share a shower with a homosexual. We took care of that kind of stuff, just like (Kirkland) said.”

Having out homosexuals would damage unit cohesion–the kind that’s cultivated with communal activities like blanket parties for gays and suspected gays.

Ta-Neshi Coates winces:

Both of these thugs are running for Congress. Is there anything else to call them? What is this but a covert endorsement of gay-bashing?

It’s not so covert.
