MD priest faces sentencing in child abuse case

Via the Baltimore Sun:

A former Catholic priest will be sentenced in Maryland later this year for child sexual abuse.

Sixty-four-year-old Michael L. Barnes entered a plea on Thursday to a single count of child abuse by a custodian, admitting there was enough evidence to convict him. Prosecutors dropped 15 other charges.

Barnes was arrested at his North Carolina home last year on charges of sexually abusing a young boy during trips to Ocean City from 1977 to 1983, when Barnes was a priest working at St. Clare school in Essex.

The victim said he was abused both at St. Clare and during beach trips in Delaware and Maryland.
